Swissbib is a meta-catalogue of the generation "Catalogue 2.0 / Web 2.0" of the Swiss University Libraries and the Swiss National Library.
Swissbib enables the user to search within the library collections of the "Informationsverbund Deutschschweiz", the Library Network of Western Switzerland, the Swiss National Library and the "Sistema Bibliotecario Ticinese" under a uniform surface. swissbib is oriented towards modern library search engines regarding research quality, speed and surface. Apart from a search within Swiss catalogues, swissbib will also be able to largely replace the existing online catalogues of the IDS, RERO, the Swiss National Library and SBT.
Due to the direct availability of the collections, swissbib will be the primary point of access for library research in Switzerland.
The software for swissbib is implemented in cooperation with OCLC and will be presented publicly in the second half of 2009.
Swissbib is realised in partnership with UB Basel, NB, RERO, IDS and ETH-Bibliothek under the lead of the University Library Basel.
