The 2nd “Library Science Talk 2012” will be held by Gordon Dunsire (UK) on 12 and 13 March 2012. The guest speaker is an independent consultant, formerly Head of the Centre for Digital Library Research at the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow.
Under the title “Linked Data, Libraries and the Semantic Web” the presentation will discuss the work of the W3C Library Linked Data Incubator Group and its final report and relate it to recent developments in bibliographic metadata standards and records in the context of linked data, Resource Description Framework, and the Semantic Web. These include ISBD, the Functional Requirements models, RDA, and MARC, and the publishing of linked data triples by the British Library, Deutsche Nationalbibliothek, and others. Specific topics include the mapping of legacy records to linked data formats and the interoperability of triples derived from different models for bibliographic metadata, including Dublin Core.
The talk will take place at the following venues:
12 March (Mo) at 15.30 Geneva, ILO
13 March (Tue) at 15.30 Bern, Swiss National Library
