Project
The digital platform for the historical Sciences in Switzerland is a joint project of the Swiss Association for History, the Swiss Academy of Humanities and Social Sciences (SAHS) and other partners.
Mission
infoclio.ch is committed to the promotion, safeguarding and the further development of digital infrastructures for the historical sciences in Switzerland. It coordinates relevant supporting bodies and players, represents their common needs and interests, and ensures their comprehensive documentation. Besides, it promotes the networking of existing digital knowledge inventories, the representation of Swiss history within international databases and researchers’ access to international databases. Furthermore, it reflects the potentials and weaknesses of digital media for the historical sciences and forward-looking solutions and strategies.
Fields of activity: Coordination – lobbying – communication – networking - reflection
infoclio.ch establishes a national portal of the historical sciences which
- Scans, evaluates and spreads digital services on Swiss history
- Defines a sustainable strategy for the digitalisation and retro digitalisation of resource materials and information sources for Swiss history
- Offers consulting services regarding the digitalisation of historical sources and their sustainable archiving
- Maintains a research database of current master theses and dissertations
- Keeps a calendar of forthcoming events of all institutions in Switzerland organising events on Swiss history (universities, museums, archives, libraries etc.)
- Establishes a communication forum on historical topics and historico-political discussion for the scientific community (blog)
- Encourages third party funded projects on the development of digital infrastructures in the area of historical sciences and the humanities in general
- Works on the development of a "disciplinary repository" for historical research in Switzerland based on meta data and/or links
