Duration : 10.2008-12.2011

With regard to quality assurance and the continuous improvement of websites, the topic of usability evaluation is vital. Aspects concerning user experience are crucially important for web applications, where a differentiation to competitors cannot be achieved by the offered services. This is particularly significant due to the fact that nowadays users have certain expectations towards professional online services, which need to be met. If the users on a website are not able to quickly achieve their goals, the respective service will be regarded as useless or even as counterproductive.

Therefore, within the project ElibEval, a special evaluation concept will be developed for the services planned in the context of E-lib.ch. This evaluation framework will focus especially on usability aspects (i.e. factors which influence the interaction between users and services) and the usefulness of these services (for instance how users judge the relevance of contents). To offer an added value for the partners of E-lib.ch, the aim is not only to evaluate the websites in order to identify usability problems, but also to elaborate adequate optimization measures.

The project will be carried out in close cooperation by the University of Applied Sciences HTW Chur (Swiss Institute for Information Research) and the HEG Geneva.
