"Kartenportal.CH" is the research portal for maps and geodata for the "Swiss electronic library".

There is no central catalogue of maps in Switzerland. When searching, it is often necessary to consult several catalogues and geodata portals. The keyword search used in library catalogues is not ideal for maps. Searching for maps is therefore often a tedious and time-consuming process.

"Kartenportal.CH" is the central entry point for your map search on the Internet and will help you by providing the following tools and information:

• Geo-search: find maps from the meta-catalogue of Swiss University Libraries and the Swiss National Library by selecting a map extract
• Keyword search: find maps from the meta-catalogue of Swiss University Libraries and the Swiss National Library by using keywords
• Link database: short descriptions and links to online maps, geodata portals, the catalogues of libraries and archives in Switzerland
• Swiss map collections: directory giving detailed information about holdings and how to use them
• Links to online courses and tools for using digital map data 

"Kartenportal.CH" improves the access to map material and encourages networking between map collections in Switzerland. With Geo-search, an innovative tool has been developed for the portal, helping users to search for maps in library catalogues.
