The aim of the "web portal e-lib.ch" is to create a central point of access for the provision of academic information resources and services across Switzerland. The main priorities are:

• To make it possible to search across all resources and have direct access to digital objects thanks to the latest search engine technology
• To integrate heterogeneous information resources, focussing particularly on the information and services resulting from sub-projects of "e-lib.ch"
• To set up personalisation functions, for creating customised services
• To implement single sign-on solutions for gaining access to the information products and services of the portal, irrespective of time or place
• To design a graphical user interface incorporating search engine applications in the navigation concept
• To implement a content management system for entering and managing the multilingual web content

The project is being carried out in the context of "e-lib.ch: Swiss Electronic Library". It is being implemented in cooperation and coordination with the sub-projects within e-lib.ch. Because of the applied remit, synergies from the Knowledge Portal project of the ETH-Bibliothek can be utilized.

The beta version of the "web portal e-lib.ch" has been available since the beginning of 2011.
